Dunedin 7/24

On Saturday, July 24 -  quartet version of O Som Do Jazz will be playing at a new venue in downtown Dunedin called the Cafe Cabana.  It is a very nice craft wine & beer cafe owned by the Casa Tina folks... perhaps the best Mexican restaurant in the Tampa Bay area.  We will be performing outside on a deck area covered with trees.  We will cover our favorite bossa nova & samba tunes, as always.

I hope to see some long-lost classmates from Dunedin High School... as long as they don't remind me how thin I used to be!

Busy Weekend!

Oba Oba! - O Som Do Jazz has two concerts this weekend on July 9 &10

The Friday concert (7/9) is at the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts located in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg near the Pier.  The new MFA Café will be open for dinner and there will be a cash bar available for beer and wine.  See the following link for more info:
Jazz at the MFA

On Saturday evening (7/10), we provide music for the Chihuly Collection’s Carnivale of Glass. This benefit event requires reservations. See the following link for more info:
Carnivale of Glass.  Here's a little secret!  We will be playing outside of 400 Beach Seafood & Taphouse facing the bay.  Just drop by and hear us and save yourself the $200 event ticket.

in the studio

I'm sorry for being silent lately.  It has been a busy couple of months with the "day job."

Next week we finish an electro-bossa cut with Andrea's voice and some keyboard tracks.  That project (and related tracks) are earmarked for licensing, but one or two may wind up on a CD.

A Turkish label has asked to include our version of Manhã de Carnaval on a compilation lounge recording that they are releasing.  That is good news!

Feliz Ano Novo!

We are visiting family in Rio de Janeiro and enjoying the pool ( it is very hot here!).  On Saturday we heard the king of sambalanço - Orlandivo at the Cariocando club in Lapa. It was quite a show!

Have a wonderful New Years Eve!

getting better!

festivals abroad

With the economy collapsing in Florida, it is getting very difficult to find performances here.  If you can recommend festivals abroad that might have interest in O Som Do Jazz, please write us with contact information.

Thanks!

caipirinhas!

Well... it's going up to 100 F today, here in Florida.

It's time to break out the cachaca and make some caipirinhas!

summertime blues

Well... it is summer and all of the performances seem to have evaporated in Florida.  Now is a good time to complete our second recording project of originals.

New Tunes?

We keep adding new tunes to our repertoire.  Right now I am arranging Piano na Manguira by Tom Jobim and Dig This Samba by Manfredo Fest.

What songs would you like us to add to our list?

Curtis Ross (Tampa Tribune), had this to say about "Infinita Bossa" in the March 26 newspaper - "Supple, sophisticated sounds from a local outfit well-versed in Brazil's wonderfully diverse music. Take a listen to the lively “Berimbau” and be hooked immediately."

Tampa Tribune

The Friday, March 26 Tampa Tribune will include O Som Do Jazz' release "Infinita Bossa" in its local music feature. The CD was recorded to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the birth of Bossa Nova.
